How long does cast iron pipe last?

Around 50 years, and less with water as hard as ours. Most Valley homes built before 1980 are running on pipe at or past that mark. An inspection tells you how much life yours has left.

Do I have to replace all of my cast iron at once?

No. Descaling and coating can restore sound pipe, and lining can rebuild damaged runs in place. Only pipe that has rusted through needs cutting out, and we replace just those sections.

Can you fix cast iron under the slab without breaking the floor?

Usually, yes. The Picote and Maxliner work happens through existing openings, like a cleanout or a pulled toilet. Breaking concrete is the last resort, not the first move.

How do roots get into cast iron pipe?

Through the joints and through rusted-out sections of the wall. Citrus and ficus roots hunt water aggressively, and a leaking joint draws them straight in. Cutting the roots out without sealing the pipe just invites them back.

Is relined cast iron as good as new pipe?

The cured liner is a smooth, jointless pipe rated for 50 years or more. It will not rust, and roots cannot get through it. For most homes it outperforms the original pipe.

How much does cast iron pipe replacement cost?

Three ways to deal with failing cast iron

Picote chains strip decades of rust scale back to bare metal. A coating then seals the pipe wall. Best for cast iron that is rough but still sound.

Line it in place

A Maxliner resin liner cures inside the old pipe, giving you a smooth new pipe within the cast iron shell. It seals cracks and locks roots out for decades.

Replace the worst sections

Pipe that has rusted through or collapsed gets cut out and replaced. We open only what we have to and put your home back the way we found it.
