PEX repiping
PEX repiping in Phoenix and the East Valley
New PEX in place of rusted or leaking pipe. Fewer joints in your walls, smaller holes in the drywall, and steady pressure at every tap.
Why most Valley repipes go in with PEX now
PEX is a flexible plastic water pipe. It comes on a roll, so one length can run from the main to a fixture with no joint hidden in the wall. Fewer joints means fewer places to leak.
It bends around corners instead of needing a fitting at every turn. That lets us feed it through the attic and down the walls through small holes. A copper repipe often needs much more of the wall open.
Its inside wall is smooth. Hard water scale has far less to grab onto than it does inside rusted steel.
When PEX is the right pipe for your house
- Your home sits on a slab and has a history of leaks under the floor
- Galvanized steel still feeds the faucets
- Copper has sprung pinhole leaks in more than one spot
- You want the job done with as little wall damage as possible
- Your budget points away from a full copper repipe
Copper still earns its place in some spots, like a run that has to sit out in the open. We install both, and we will tell you where each one belongs in your house.
How a PEX repipe goes in a slab home
Most Valley homes sit on a concrete slab, with the old water lines buried under it. A PEX repipe usually leaves those lines in the ground and runs new ones overhead.
Map the house
We find every fixture, the main shutoff, and the water heater. Then we plan the shortest runs through the attic and down the walls.
Run the new lines overhead
The PEX goes across the attic, laid low and tucked under the insulation where it can be, then drops inside the walls to each fixture. The old lines under the slab get cut off and capped.
Tie in every fixture
Each sink, toilet, tub, and hose bib gets connected to the new line. Shutoff valves that have seized from years of hard water get replaced while the wall is open.
Pressure test, then patch
We pressure-test the whole system before any wall closes. Then the access holes get patched and the house gets cleaned up.

PEX or copper: the honest trade-offs
Both are sound, code-approved pipe in Arizona. They are good at different things.
- PEX costs less to put in
- The pipe costs less, and far fewer fittings means fewer labor hours. For most homeowners that is the deciding reason.
- PEX forgives a freeze
- It can stretch when water freezes inside it, where copper tends to split. That matters more in Anthem and the foothills than it does in Mesa.
- Copper does not mind heat or sun
- PEX can never sit in direct sun, and it needs care in a hot attic. Copper shrugs off both, so exposed runs are where copper still wins.
- Neither one rusts like galvanized
- Either pipe ends the brown water and the slow choke of rusted steel. The choice is about cost, layout, and how long you plan to stay.
